Viswijvenkoor Grietje Sprot
On 15 october 1993 Viswijvenkoor Grietje Sprot was founded. The choir presents its salty songs dressed in traditional working clothes, worn by fishermen’s wives during the Twenties in various Dutch fishing ports at the North Sea, the Wadden Sea and the former Zuider Sea. Besides vocally, many of the songs are also performed dramatically.
This oldest Dutch dance group performing in traditional costume was founded in 1912. According to its founders, those colourful costumes, those special songs and the old Hindeloopen customs and traditions should be preserved.
Aald Hielpen frequently performs both at home and abroad.
Shanty choir Auke Wybesz
The Hindeloopen shanty choir Auke Wybesz, founded in 2005, consists of 35 choir members and 3 musicians. Their repertoire varies from Sturdy, Salty, Sweet, Silly to Thirsty (sometimes with a touch of Melancholy) sailor songs.
